Silica Alumina
Catalyst

Silica Alumina catalysts (Zeolites) are supplied in spheres, extrudates, and tablets with tailored pore
structures and acid sites. They are applied in epoxidation (styrene to styrene oxide), nitration of
aromatics (benzene, toluene), and esterification (ethanol to ethyl acetate), delivering high activity,
selectivity and stability.

Applications: Key component in petroleum refining (FCC, isomerization, alkylation, hydrocracking).
Also used in dehydration of alcohols and as catalyst supports.
Chemical Information: Acidity originates from partial substitution of Al³⁺ in the silica lattice, creating
negative framework charges balanced by protons or other cations.

  • General Formula: SiO₂–Al₂O₃ (variable ratios, e.g., 10–50 wt% Al₂O₃). 
  • Structure: Amorphous or partially crystalline oxide solid.
  • Surface Area: 200–500 m²/g (can vary). 
  • Pore Size: 2–20 nm (mesoporous).
  • Acid Sites: Brønsted (≡Si–OH–Al≡) and Lewis (Al³⁺ centers).
